Whitbread have been working with Waterscan since 2003. They have made considerable financial and environmental benefits from Project Water which focuses on 5 areas of controlling and reducing Whitbread's Water Footprint
Whitbread's Project Water has also been recognised at the Environment Agency's Water Efficiency Awards 2007 for outstanding achievement in water efficiency and conservation.
The whole project is managed via Waterline the web based reporting system which includes daily consumption graphs, meter readings, benchmarking, fluctuation alerts and site survey information.
Waterscan have applied the principles of Water Footprinting to Whitbread's business, in particular to reducing operational water consumption.
Waterscan were commissioned to provide a Greywater solution for Premier Inn in 2007 and the first system was installed in Doncaster.
Currently, the unit recovers 2800 litres per day and reduces water consumption by 22%. A further combined Rainwater and Greywater system has just been commissioned for the new 'Premier Inn - Green Hotel', which opened at the beginning of December.
The hotel will reduce energy use by 80% vs. a standard hotel; thanks to radically different approaches to energy consumption.
The Tamworth site is a flagship site for the company to trial the best green technologies available, to see which are viable for their hotels in future. One of the key features of Britain's greenest hotel is the Greywater recycling system which will save 20% of the hotels entire water usage and will provide 100% of the hotel's toilet water usage.
