Water management programme saves £316,225 per annum
David Lloyd Leisure operates 78 health and fitness clubs across the UK, with over 150 swimming pools. In 2003, David Lloyd's Energy Team confirmed Waterscan as their supplier of choice to investigate and improve their water management.
After an initial historical water audit and consultation with the client, it was decided that the water management project would concentrate on four key areas; leak detection and repair, bill validation, AMR data logging and trade effluent.
A programme of site audits was carried out by Waterscan's team of trained surveyors. They were briefed to assess all areas of water consumption but in particular to focus on the swimming pools as this is where 20% of the water consumption occurred.
From these site audits, water leaks and other water consumption issues were identified and resolved, contributing to an overall saving of £316,225. In particular a leak was repaired by Waterscan's civil engineering team at the Kings Hill Club and the bill validation team negotiated a leak rebate from Southern Water for £40,187.
David Lloyd Leisure already monitored their gas and electricity supply through data loggers but water consumption was not closely scrutinized. Waterscan has installed data loggers on all the revenue meters and sub metered a selection of swimming pools.
Each club's trade effluent consents were reviewed and submitted by Waterscan's trade effluent team. They ensured that the volume flow matched the prices levied by the water companies and that David Lloyd Leisure was compliant with the law.
