BREEAM for schools

Earn your BREEAM credits through water...

BREEAM ( Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method) is the world's leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings, with over 115,000 buildings certified and nearly 700,000 registered. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. Credits are awarded in nine categories according to performance. These credits are than added together to produce a single overall score on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding.

As BREEAM is predominantly a design stage assessment it is important to implement details into the design as soon as possible. By doing this it will be easier to obtain a higher rating and a more cost effective result. Ideally an assessor should be brought on board at the concept design stage. The time taken for the assessment will vary from project to project, depending how quickly the assessor can collect the required information.

The assessment is divided into 9 sections:

  1. Management
  2. Health & Wellbeing
  3. Energy
  4. Transport
  5. Water
  6. Materials
  7. Waste
  8. Land Use & Ecology
  9. Pollution
